today i was going to skip german.

well golly good thing i didn't, we had an incredible guest speaker come and lecture!
his name was karl-heinz schnibbe and he had such a cool story to tell!
i had actually heard the story once before on a documentary called "truth and conviction" and it is an incredible one.

he was speaking in german, and while i was proud at how much i understood, i'm sure i still missed a ton! at first i didn't understand why he of all people was speaking about this story. i was thinking maybe he was there in germany when it happened and knew the boys or maybe perhaps he was a mere relative of one of them. then midway through the lecture i caught that he was ONE OF THE BOYS. holy cow. i went bananas. took notes and everything.

so many great personal stories that we learned from hearing the story from him personally. one in particular (i hope i get this right...he was speaking in another language) was that when he was in solitary confinement for 6 months (?) his mother had to come and pick up his laundry weekly in order for his clothes to be washed. during this time he was severely beaten and tortured and there would often times be blood on his clothes that his poor mother was taking to be washed. how heart-breaking for her.

well anyways when i got home i was searching all over the internet reading about this because i thought the story was so fascinating. one thing i discovered (i might remember them mentioning something about this in german. probably didn't know what they were talking about) is that they are making a MOVIE about it!
